My Travel
Recommendations
I have traveled a lot in Vietnam already and I have very good recommendations for you if you are planning to come here. From the North to the South of Vietnam or the other way round, it's all up to you!
In general, it depends on the time that you want to spend in Vietnam. Please check if you need a visa to travel to Vietnam and how long it will allow you to stay here. Another factor is the weather as the seasons are different in the North, Central and South.
The distances in Vietnam are big and taking buses and trains can take a lot of time. It's not only about the distance in kilometers, but about the actual travel time when traveling around mountainous areas (especially in the North). That's why I would recommend to check on the travel times between your destinations and the best travel options while planning your trip.
No one likes to rush around with heavy luggage and a full day travel schedule. Take time for every spot to experience the most of it. There is so much to see!
I've traveled the North, Central and South twice within three weeks and I can tell that it can be a bit too much. Of course it depends on what you want to see but the landscapes in the North are just amazing.
Central Vietnam has beautiful beaches around An Bang and Da Nang, colorful Hoi An old town and a rich history to discover in Hue. You can travel between Da Nang and Hue by taking a scenic train ride over the famous Hai Van Pass which only takes around 3 hours.
And finally, the South of Vietnam - the place where I lost my heart to this beautiful country because of its lovely people.
I've lived in the Central Highlands for a few months so I can only recommend to come to Dalat if you have the chance to. It's simply beautiful and it's less hot because it's in the mountains.
What you should never miss out on is Ho Chi Minh City. I lived there for one year and know many local spots. The city is vibrant and full of motorbikes, nice people, cute coffee shops and good food. From here, you can travel to Mekong Delta as well.
Mekong Delta is still less touristy than other parts of Vietnam, but it is special in its own way. I live in Can Tho since the beginning of 2025. and I traveled a lot in the Delta since then. If you like adventurous traveling, that's where you belong!
Enjoy your journey and the beauty of Vietnam!
Note: I divided Vietnam geographically to make it easier for you so I talk about North, Central and South Vietnam.
North Vietnam
The North of Vietnam is rich in culture and history and the landscapes are absolutely amazing. Dive into the crazy traffic of Hanoi. explore the unique nature around Ninh Binh or Mai Chau and enjoy the sunset at Lan Ha Bay.
Stunning views of rivers and rice fields surrounded by mountains, great local food and interesting history - that's what is waiting for you in the North!
Mekong Delta
Mekong Delta is the most Southern area of Vietnam. It's also called "miền Tây" which means "Western Vietnam".
It is famous for fruit and vegetable farming, rice fields, coconut trees and fishing. The biggest city is Can Tho, from where you can travel to other places as well. It"s a lot less touristy than other places in Vietnam, so if you like adventure, this is where you belong!
